Our Sleep Story
A Love Letter to Her Sister
When Lara Smith’s younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, the treatment brought brutal night sweats that robbed her of sleep. Lara searched everywhere for something beautiful that could actually help. It didn’t exist. So she built it.

Where It Started
Twenty-five years in fashion.
One moment that changed everything.
Before Lusomé, Lara Smith spent over two decades at the highest levels of the fashion industry — starting at Ralph Lauren and Gucci, then rising to senior executive at some of Canada’s largest retailers, sourcing innovative textiles across the globe.
She understood performance fabrics. She understood what made women feel beautiful. But when her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, none of that mattered — because nothing on the market could solve the problem staring her in the face.
The treatments plunged her sister into early menopause. Night after night, she woke drenched in sweat — fighting for her life and unable to sleep. Lara searched North America and Europe for sleepwear that could help. Everything she found was 100% polyester with chemical finishes. Functional, maybe. Beautiful? Something a woman could feel like herself in? Not even close.
I really started this company as a love letter to my sister and all the women suffering in silence from extreme health conditions that brought about night sweats.
Lara Smith, Founder & CEO
So Lara did what her entire career had prepared her to do. She assembled the textile scientists who could build proprietary fabric technologies — not “science theater”, but advanced blends and biobased treatments engineered to regulate temperature and manage moisture before you even start to sweat.
Lusomé launched in 2014. Within the first year, 125 boutiques across North America signed on. Then came the Oprah Magazine feature, and everything accelerated. Lara had found the gap no one else had bothered to fill — luxury and science, in service of women who deserved both.
Along the way, she fought off a hostile takeover attempt during the pandemic and emerged with an even bigger vision: to transform Lusomé from sleepwear into a complete sleep health system, anchored by clinical proof from one of the world’s most respected medical institutions.

Not “cooling.”
Temperature-regulating.
Most cooling products are reactive — they try to cool you down after you’re already sweating. Lusomé built two proprietary technologies that work differently. Our sheets use Xirotex™ Cool, a biobased treatment on 100% cotton that absorbs excess body heat before you start to sweat, then uses continuous evaporative cooling to maintain your optimal sleep temperature. Our sleepwear uses Xirotex™ Dry fabric that moves moisture away from your skin instantly — so sweat never lingers.
This is the difference between a $89 bamboo sheet from Amazon and a clinically validated sleep system. One is a fabric claim. The other is a measured outcome.
