Kiln-Fired Originals. Hand Made In Canada. Originally started on the Ottawa River, just outside Pembroke Ontario, our home kilns are still firing and serving our local community. We are proud to have expanded to out to Markham, Ontario, where you can come visit our studio and see our work in action – all our products are handmade, one of a kind, fused and fired for up to 24 hours in our studio kilns. Our kilns get as hot as 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and each of our unique pieces is composed of several layers of sheet glass. This glass is cut, stacked, melted, shattered, restacked and remelted again. Using our own special techniques, we can create beautiful layers and designs in our final gems. This process can take up to 4 rounds in the kiln, over 100 hours of heat, and no two pieces ever turn out the same, making every piece your own truly original Artglas. Our Artists David Shia Melamed About David David Melamed attended Concordia University Fine Arts, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a double major in Theater and Religious Studies. In 2011 he became a certified Yoga Instructor in Hatha Yoga at the Sivananda Yoga Institute in Quebec , where he worked and lived between his studies at Concordia University. In 2017, after involving himself in business, management and proprietorship in the Montreal service industry, he decided to devote himself to his lifelong love and interest of the Arts. Having learned stained glass from his father ( architect and former stained glass artist), and working closely with glass artisan, Kim Brewster in Saint Sauveur, David developed his old hobby into a new life- creating unique techniques and creations in the world of Glass Art. Visit David Shia’s Site Sarah Erin Melamed About Sarah Sarah Melamed holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Design from York University (2005), a Masters Degree in Forest Conservation and Biology from the University of Toronto (2015), and works for Canada’s national parks service. The intersection of art, nature and science is a recurring theme in Sarah’s life and work: Raised in the forests and mountains of Quebec’s Laurentian mountains and formally trained in fine art since the age of 5, Sarah is inspired by nature, interested in the natural sciences, and driven to share this passion and understanding through art. Her work with Artglas is the perfect balance of these three muses: Nature and art as inspiration, and science in the medium (glass) and process (fusion).
