She understood performance fabrics. She understood what made women feel beautiful. But when her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, none of that mattered — because nothing on the market could solve the problem staring her in the face.
The treatments plunged her sister into early menopause. Night after night, she woke drenched in sweat — fighting for her life and unable to sleep. Lara searched North America and Europe for sleepwear that could help. Everything she found was 100% polyester with chemical finishes. Functional, maybe. Beautiful? Something a woman could feel like herself in? Not even close.
I really started this company as a love letter to my sister and all the women suffering in silence from extreme health conditions that brought about night sweats.

So Lara did what her entire career had prepared her to do. She assembled the textile scientists who could build proprietary fabric technologies — not “science theater”, but advanced blends and biobased treatments engineered to regulate temperature and manage moisture before you even start to sweat.
Lusomé launched in 2014. Within the first year, 125 boutiques across North America signed on. Then came the Oprah Magazine feature, and everything accelerated. Lara had found the gap no one else had bothered to fill — luxury and science, in service of women who deserved both.
